Collection: Games, Plush & Toys

In the holdings of the National Archives there is the moving collection of Lewis Hine’s photographs of children performing hard labor in American factories. These photographs were instrumental in changing the United States child labor laws, giving kids their right to pursue happiness.

Beyond the amazing collection of toy patents, the National Archives holds many records related to toys and children. There are records and photographs of the WPA Toy Repair Projects where old toys and dolls were mended by workers and made available to underprivileged children during the Great Depression. There are photographs of Christmas at the White House, and in the Presidential Library holdings there are gifts that were given to the Presidential children.
