On June 14, 1777, the official design of the United States flag was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. Often called the “Stars and Stripes,” the flag has evolved many times over the years, although its current design was adopted in 1960, after Hawaii became the 50th state. 

The flag has become a powerful symbol of national identity, unity, and freedom, appearing in moments of triumph, protest, and remembrance throughout American history.
