Space
Starting with the records of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, formed in 1915 to study problems of flight and to conduct research in aeronautics, the National Archives holds in trust the records of NASA and other records related to aeronautics, including the Wright brothers' patent for their flying machine.
We're pleased to offer interesting and high-quality space themed items in our store, in support of the exhibits, public programs and educational initiatives at the National Archives Museum.

Space Pens
In 1967, after over two years of rigorous testing by NASA, the Space Pen was selected for use by the astronauts of Apollo 7 and has been used on all manned space flights since. The overall design of the Original Astronaut Pen has not changed in over 50 years, and the pen that you buy today, except for several minor aesthetic changes, is nearly identical to the one taken to the moon in 1969.
All Astronaut Pens are proudly produced in the USA! Each is made of solid brass with hard chrome plating, giving it a solid feel in your hand as you write. They also feature a unique clicking mechanism that extends the point via the button on the top, with a release button on the side to retract it. This side button has a substantial sound and feel to it, ensuring that you will always remember to retract the point before sliding the pen back into your pocket.
Astronaut Pens have been used on all NASA Apollo and Space Shuttle missions, the International Space Station, Russian Soyuz and MIR space flights, the French ARIANE Space Program, and the Everest North Face Ski Expedition. -

Star Spangled Banner
On June 14, 1777, the official design of the United States flag was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. Often called the “Stars and Stripes,” the flag has evolved many times over the years, although its current design was adopted in 1960, after Hawaii became the 50th state.
The flag has become a powerful symbol of national identity, unity, and freedom, appearing in moments of triumph, protest, and remembrance throughout American history.
