Military bag designs have evolved since the early, simple, single strap haversack bag of the 19th century. Pockets, rings, and clips were added as equipment and supply needs changed. By 1910, an additional pouch was attached to the top center of the haversack flap to carry a meat can, knife, fork, and spoon. In 1944, the Army began replacing the haversack and the canvas field bag with a combat pack based upon the 1941 U.S. Marine Corps pack.

In our day and age of needing to carry a laptop, cellphone, wallet, keys, and baby supplies all in one bag, military-inspired bag designs give us all the pockets and practicality we need for our daily missions.
