Presidential Couple Mug: George H.W. Bush
- National Archives Store Exclusive
- Two-tone ceramic
- 14 oz.
Exclusive to the National Archives, this two-tone ceramic mug commemorates the extraordinary long marriage and partnership of George H. W. Bush and Barbara Pierce. Generously proportioned for hot beverages, this mug is part of a presidential collection that pays tribute to our country’s first couples.
George H. W. Bush and Barbara Pierce met at a school dance in 1941, and were married a few years later in 1945, when George returned home after serving as a pilot in World War II. Their 73 year marriage is the longest in presidential history, surpassing that of John and Abigail Adams. The Bushes had six children: four sons and two daughters, one of whom died of leukemia at age three.
