• Harry S. Truman was the 33rd president of the United States, serving from 1945 to 1953 following the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Famous for his directness and decisiveness, Truman popularized the phrase, "The buck stops here" to signify that he, as president, made the ultimate decisions and accepted full responsibility. The Truman administration helped form the United Nations, established NATO, and implemented the Marshall Plan to rebuild Western Europe, but Truman's legacy is mired by the use of the atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 

Since George Washington took the mantle as our first President in 1789, a total of 45 men have served in 47 presidencies. Alongside the President, a total of 49 men and 1 woman have served as the Vice President.
