• Hang a piece of the nation's capital in your own home with this 1897 reproduction street map of Washington, D.C., featuring detailed names of parks, avenues, and waterways. Designed by Pierre Charles L'Enfant, who envisioned a grand city as a new seat of government, the layout of the United States capital is considered a crowning achievement in urban planning. Printed on thick, fine art quality matte paper that is ready to frame, this is the perfect piece to upgrade any living room or office.

The National Archives' cartographic section contains approximately 8,000 Civil War maps, including both manuscript and printed maps and plans. The manuscript maps include pencil sketches and original pen-and-ink drawings as well as processed maps with annotations in ink or pencil. Many of the Civil War manuscript maps and drawings are unique to the National Archives, while a variety of the printed maps are more common and can be found in other large repositories such as the Library of Congress.

Overall, the holdings of the Cartographic and Architectural Section of the National Archives include over 15 million maps, charts, aerial photographs, architectural drawings, patents, and ship plans, constituting one of the world's largest accumulations of such documents.
