"This invention relates to new and useful improvements in basket ball goals, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a series of net-attaching devices that may be integrally secured to the bottom of the goal ring, and by means of which the net may be readily and quickly attached to and detached from the ring manually, without requiring any lacing cord, tie cord, or other separate fastening devices."--Alvie E. Sandeberg. Filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office February 24, 1936.

  • The patent act of 1790 established the rules for submitting a patent application. Each application had to be submitted with specifications, a patent drawing, and if possible a model of the invention. Eventually, models were no longer required.
