  • With a twinkle in his eye, the George Washington quarter inset with diamond chips makes an elegant silver ring. It is a thoughtful piece for the historian, patriotic American, Washington enthusiast, or coin collector.

  • The Washington quarter was introduced into circulation in 1932 in commemoration of the bicentennial of the birth of the United States’ first President. It permanently replaced the standing Liberty quarter. The Washington quarter was struck in silver until 1964, when the rising price of the precious metal created a coin shortage because quarters and half dollars were being hoarded. Coins struck after 1964 contained no silver.

Reeded--or ridged--edges have appeared on United States’ coins since the 1790s. The intention of reeds on coins was to thwart people from filing the edges down when coins contained precious metals.
