The instantly recognizable image of our first President makes this extraordinary piece captivating. Handmade hinges soldered together with vintage silver Washington quarters form an astonishing reticulating bracelet. The lobster claw clasp is sterling silver.
The Washington quarter was introduced into circulation in 1932 in commemoration of the bicentennial of the birth of the United States’ first President. It permanently replaced the standing Liberty quarter. The Washington was struck in silver until 1964, when the rising price of the precious metal created a coin shortage because quarters and half dollars were being hoarded. Coins struck after 1964 contained no silver.
