  • Collectively known as the United States Bill of Rights, these first ten amendments to the United States Constitution limit the powers of the federal government and protect the rights of all citizens, residents and visitors on United States territory. Introduced in 1789 in the First United States Congress by James Madison, these amendments came into effect on December 15, 1791, when ratified by three-fourths of the states. This document plays a central role in American law and remains to this day a symbol of the freedoms and culture of this nation. In this beautiful gift edition, the text of the Bill of Rights is set alongside a history of the amendments, thus placing the document in its historical context.

I am extremely impressed with each item I have purchased. I have all the available pocket books, and will be buying some other items as well. It is my way of preserving the history of our country. Each item has excellent qualities and exceeds my expectations.

With the way things are going in this country, having a copy of The Bill if Rights is essential.

To become an active American …

I am a retired educator. I taught every level from 3rd grade to graduate school over my 30-year career. I have never before read the Bill of Rights nor the Constitution from beginning to end.

Today, I find that fact an embarrassment. The uniqueness of our country is that with all its faults, we have managed to rise in the world. It is only now, when our greed and biases have combined to destroy our democracy that I have embraced the need to not just be a good neighbor, a compassionate and intelligent human being, but I feel the need to embrace and nurture my American citizenship.

Voting is not enough. Citizens must be and stay informed. The directive is right there in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

Having these seminal documents as pocket-sized books, beautifully printed and affordable is another gift of our democracy. Embrace it.

Great reference book

I bought these books so I can read our founding documents without them being changed to conform to someone else's interpretations.
