Created by the Army Art Program, this artwork depicting a scene from the Vietnam war is representative of the setting for many American soldiers in the 1960s and 70s. A reproduction from the vast collection of records held in trust by the National Archives, this print is a poignant reminder of a haunting time in our nation’s history, when Korean soldiers fought alongside American soldiers, in response to a call for allied support.
More than 40 years after it ended, the Vietnam War continues to haunt our collective conscience. We still argue over why we were there, whether we could have won, and who was right and who was wrong in response to the conflict. When the war divided the country, it created deep political rifts that continue to this day.
