  • Childe Hassam’s timeless painting from 1917 is beautifully showcased on this square glass cutting board. Part of the White House art collection, The Avenue in the Rain is an enduring and moving patriotic image, here rendered on glass as a hygienic cutting board or a gorgeous serving tray.

  • The Avenue in the Rain depicts American flags hanging on Fifth Avenue in New York City and their reflections in water following a rainstorm. It is one of 30 flag paintings by Childe Hassam that coincided with World War I. As the United States debated entry into the war, Fifth Avenue was frequently decorated with American flags. This piece was completed in February 1917, barely two months before Congress declared war on Germany on April 6.
