  • Perhaps the most famous battle of the Civil War took place at Gettysburg, PA, from July 1 to July 3, 1863. At the end of the battle, the Union's Army of the Potomac had successfully repelled the second invasion of the North by the Confederacy's Army of Northern Virginia. Several months later, on November 19, 1863, President Lincoln went to Gettysburg to speak at the dedication of the cemetery for the Union war dead. Speaking of a "new birth of freedom," he delivered one of the most memorable speeches in U.S. history.

Unique Items and Fantastic Service!!

A grandson loves Civil War history AND collects playing cards, making National Archives a treasure trove. I loved this replica deck and the many other selections that show uniforms and other related material that he's interested in. After I ordered several decks, a NA representative got in touch by email to let me know this deck was not available. Then the next week, she got in touch again to tell me they were available again and to ask if I wanted to reorder. In this era where finding anyone to wait on us, I was so surprised and pleased that she had gone out of her way to help. Amazing and wonderful!!

Thank you for your kind words, Barbara. We truly appreciate them, your review, and your support for the National Archives. We are pleased to hear that your grandson is interested in history!
