Rosie We Can Do It Mug

Rosie We Can Do It Mug

  • National Archives Store Exclusive
  • 12 oz
  • Start your day with a good hot cup of “We Can Do It!” You work hard and you play hard, and this mug is going to let everyone know you mean business.

  • During World War I, many branches of the federal government used posters to urge Americans to support the war effort. In a time without radio, TV, or the Internet, posters were an inexpensive way to deliver powerful messages to millions of people. The government hired well-known artists to create designs that unified the American people. Posters continued to be published during World War II, and new posters are still in production. The National Archives holds close to 20,000 posters produced by military and civilian agencies.

In 1942, Pittsburgh artist J. Howard Miller was hired by the Westinghouse Company's War Production Coordinating Committee to create a series of posters for the war effort. One became the famous "We Can Do It!" image that in later years would become known as "Rosie the Riveter," although it was never given this title during the war.

Rosy We Can Do It Mug

This mug is really cute and dishwasher safe. I usually drink 12 ounces of coffee using a Keurig coffee machine. This cup will hold the 12 ounces, but it is almost comes to the top. I know that I could use a lower setting…but I am a coffee hound!
The only thing that I would change is the shape of the slanted sides to a straight up and down mug, but keep the Polka Dots inside the cup…so cute!

Great Mother's Day gift

My 94 year-old Mom loved the mug! Her mother once worked in a Navy shipyard during WWII, so the design was especially meaningful.

Love this Coffee Mug!

Such a fun beautiful mug with bright happy colors. It makes me smile and remember all the women in my family who stayed strong in the face of hardships.

Nice mug: Wish it were made in the US

Rosie the Riveter remains an inspiring image. Of course that was the plan for this propaganda campaign. Rosie did as she was meant, get women into the workforce though unfortunately driven by war. Still! I love Rosie. I do wish the mug were made in the US. It seems telling that the mug with her image is made in China.
